Rain did not stop the Battle of the Bands at the University of Maryland ’s Cole Field House last Friday night. Eight bands, all with prancing, Beyonce Knowles-looking, show-stopping girls marched and strutted to the delight of the crowd in the stands. The crowds came expecting a battle and boy, did they get a show!
Sponsored by the 2 nd Annual Prince George’s Classic, this was one of the favorites of the three-day spectacular. It is well attended despite the rain.
The bands, each with 25 or more Beyonce-type girls bouncing about wowed the crowd. Guys wrapped in big tubas, balancing trombones and drums called on the girls to “shake their tail feathers” and shake they did. Each band tried to outdo the others.
But the real battle was in the stands, where each band sat after their performance.
Where the Party At?
The Prince George 's Classics Ends with a Few Die-Hard Partiers
By The Frugal Socialite
Last Saturday’s Prince George 's Classic After Party had all the set up for a bomb soiree, except the crowd. A sprinkle of about 200 or so people hardly filled the two rooms and broad lobby of the Greenbelt Marriott. Two days of unrelenting rains quelled what could have been a weekend to put Prince George 's County on the map for Black College sports fans.
The event was organized by Clarence “Clay” Williams and William Dunbar, co-owners of Stomp and Clay Productions in Philadelphia . “It’s the second year of the Classics event. People like to come out and support Black schools and continue the legacy of Black schools and support a positive cause,” Dunbar said. They hope to get the contract again with a bigger and better turnout, venues and definitely better weather.
