There are a lot of networking organizations for businesses throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area so when Fort Washington entrepreneur Karyn Collins decided to hold her first business networking group for a new organization called NetBiz Connection two weeks ago at LeFountain Bleu in Lanham, she didn’t know what the response was going to be.

Collins, an experienced manager at the Department of Energy who has trained more than 10,000 employees during the past 20 years in administrative functions, was surprised as anyone when more than 44 business owners expressed an interest by showing up.

It let Fort Washington minister know that her vision to bring existing minority business owners with essential professional services and other like-minded entrepreneurs with the idea of exchanging business ideas and clients was moving in the right direction.

“I was amazed at the number of people that came out,” Collins said. “We want

to grow this to where we have big corporations mentoring small corporations. I am a small entrepreneur right now and Deborah Scott-Thomas of Data Solutions Technology, Inc. of Lanham has made a commitment to mentor me. People may say that people can get these services from other government organizations such as the Small Business Administration, but a lot of new business owners are intimidated by the process.”

Collins, who is currently enrolled in the marketing management program at American University, plans to provide her networking services in a user-friendly environment.

“We will host a lot of meetings where we can communicate and share resources,” Collins said. “We talk about things such as finances. We work collaboratively to make sure the needs of each business is met.”

Collins said NetBiz Connection members who pay a modest membership fee receive access in services ranging from training and development, financing, resource development and partnering. They also have an opportunity to network and grow their business by offering their services to other businesses at NetBiz Connection Conferences and other events.

“NetBiz Connection is a networking and training and development service to

enhance the knowledge, skills, and abilities in each client that we meet. NetBiz Connection imparts shared ideas, concepts and incomparable communication services to enhance business sales, products, services, and revenues for the future. Through these services, NetBiz Connection clients will have the opportunity to establish potential customers, concrete partnerships, and relationships.”

Collins said NetBiz Connection has found a niche in the business owner market.

“We want to work with each other for a common goal,” Collins said. “When you go into business, there are a lot of things that you need to know, but don’t know. That’s where NetBiz Connection can help.”
