The Prince George’s County Community Mediation was honored during the District Court of Maryland’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Office’s Awards Celebration for its many volunteers on May 27th at Sir Walter Raleigh Inn in Berwyn Heights.

Community Mediation Prince George’s (CMPG) was honored for its “Outstanding Service” to the State Day of Trial Civil District Court Mediation Program. Trained Prince George’s County Volunteers dedicate two days a week to individuals who find themselves in the courthouse because of a civil conflict that involves cases from property damage to unpaid loans.
The services are provided pro bono/free of charge and participants are assisted with coming up with a mutually acceptable solution to their problem themselves. Participants are urged to take responsibility for generating solutions themselves.

The ultimate hope is that the relationship is restored as well as the conflict resolved. This saves judges and the court administrative staff time. Collectively 250 hours were logged in by the volunteers of the program this past year. Without volunteer trained Prince George’s County citizens this important noteworthy program would be impossible. Kathleen Thornton, Program Director, accepted the award on behalf of CMPG.

Community Mediation Prince George’s (CMPG) is a division of the Office of Community Relations within the Prince George’s County Government. CMPG provides free mediation services to the businesses and residents of Prince George’s County. Projects currently involve referrals from the Office of the State’s Attorney, referrals from County Regulatory Agencies, a multitude of Community based services as well as District Court.

If you are interested in problem solving and peace projects with other like-minded concerned citizens, please consider calling the Office of Community Relations, Mediation Division.
