Wallace scores 14 as Bobcats beat Wizards 92-76

Gerald Wallace had 14 points and 14 rebounds, Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton each scored 12 points and the Charlotte Bobcats rolled over the Washington Wizards 92-76 on Saturday night, nov. 28.

The win was the Bobcats' fourth straight - their longest winning streak since a five-game run from Feb. 25-March 7, 2009. The Wizards failed in their attempt to win three in a row for the first time since April 2008.

Charlotte never trailed and held Washington to 13 points in the second quarter to take a 42-32 halftime lead. The Wizards missed 14 of their 18 field goal attempts in the quarter.

The Bobcats scored seven of the first nine points in the third to take a 49-34 lead with 8:19 to play. They led by as many as 22 late in the third quarter. Charlotte, which had six players score in double figures, continued its run of outstanding defense. The Bobcats have allowed 100 points just once this season, and the 76 points scored by the Wizards equaled their lowest output of the season.

Both teams played on Friday night and the Wizards appeared especially drained.

Gilbert Arenas, who had just nine points in Friday's win over Miami and was replaced in the fourth quarter by 5-foot-5 Earl Boykins, missed eight of his 11 shots and finished with six points. Boykins wasn't effective either, despite coach Flip Saunders' pre-game praise of Boykins as a fourth-quarter standout. Boykins missed seven of his 10 shots and finished with six points.

Nick Young, who had two consecutive games of 20 or more points after being inactive for one game, was in early foul trouble and had just seven points.
Caron Butler led Washington with 19 points.

NOTES:
Charlotte coach Larry Brown said he was excited about the prospect of Allen Iverson returning to Philadelphia, where Brown coached him. "I don't think deep down he ever wanted to leave Philly," Brown said. "He's said, deep down, numerous times that's where he wanted to finish his career. Let's hope he has an opportunity to come back. If it's not Philly, somebody will pick him up. I'm confident of that." ... Wizards F Antawn Jamison thanked the crowd before the game for their sympathies on behalf of the late owner Abe Pollin, who died Tuesday. A message from NBA Commissioner David Stern was played on the scoreboard during the first quarter. ... Bobcats G Acie Law, who was acquired along with Stephen Jackson from Golden State on Nov. 16, was inactive. He's played in only one game since the trade.

Backstrom gives Capitals shootout win over Habs

MONTREAL (AP) -- Nicklas Backstrom scored the only shootout goal on Washington's third attempt to give the Capitals a 4-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night, Nov. 28.

Semyon Varlamov stopped Montreal shooters Mike Cammalleri, Maxim Lapierre and Tomas Plekanec. Backstrom secured the win when he put a shot past Carey Price, who had stopped Tomas Fleischmann and Alexander Ovechkin.

Eric Fehr scored his second goal of the game to draw Washington even at 3 with 11.4 seconds remaining in regulation. Fehr, who opened the scoring 8:47 in, got his second of the game - his sixth of the season - when he backhanded a rebound past Price after Montreal defenseman Paul Mara was called for high-sticking at 19:44 to send the game to overtime.

Ovechkin got his 18th goal midway through the first 1:12 after Eric Fehr got his fifth as Washington scored on two of its first three shots to take a 2-0 lead.

Varlamov stopped 21 shots. The Russian rookie recorded his first regular-season shutout in his last outing Wednesday when he turned aside 25 shots in a 2-0 win over Buffalo. Price made 20 saves for the Canadiens, 3-1-2 in their last six.

Travis Moen gave Montreal a 3-2 lead with a power-play goal 5:34 into the third.

Moen got credit for his sixth of the season when he redirected Marc-Andre Bergeron's wrist shot from the deep slot past Varlamov to give Montreal its third straight goal after falling behind 2-0 midway through the first.

Jaroslav Spacek and Plekanec scored in the second for the Canadiens. Fehr deflected Karl Alzner's point shot past Price for his fifth goal 8:47 in after the Capitals failed to record a shot during their first power-play opportunity early in the opening period.

Ovechkin made it a 2-0 lead when he drove a slap shot past Price into the left side of the net at 9:59. Spacek, who returned after missing two games because of injury, scored his second goal on a power-play goal 5:40 into the second to draw Montreal within 2-1.

Plekanec tied it at 2 with his sixth goal at 13:50.
