FERGUSON, Mo. (The Washington Post) — Twelve days after the police shooting of an unarmed black teenager, six people were arrested. A bottle was thrown at police. And a supporter of the officer who killed 18-year-old Michael Brown was hit during a scuffle.
But by Wednesday night, police radios were largely quiet and so were city streets. No shots were fired. No tear gas was deployed. No riots ravaged the town.
“We saw a different crowd that came out tonight,” Missouri State Highway Patrol Capt. Ronald Johnson said in a news conference at about 1:30 a.m. Central time on Thursday. “We didn’t have as many criminals and agitators in the crowd.”
Johnson said there were no molotov cocktails, fires or shootings. And police did not seize a single handgun.
