Kensington Palace has confirmed that Michael Bruce Curry, distinguished as the first African-American bishop in the American Episcopal Church, will deliver an address Saturday at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Curry, 65, a descendant of North Carolina and Alabama slaves and sharecroppers, is the 27th presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church.
Credited with shaking up the face of Episcopalian worship, Curry currently presides over a 1.8 million-member Christian community that has historically served large segment of the nation’s business and political elite.
