The wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is being taken to task for hiring a conservative activist who was forced from a right-wing student group in light of her racist comments.
Despite her comments, Crystal Clanton was hired last year by Ginni Thomas after the New Yorker obtained screenshots of text messages where Clanton wrote, “I HATE BLACK PEOPLE. Like [expletive] them all . . . I hate blacks. End of story.”
Clanton, who had served as second-in-command of Turning Point USA for five years, left the nonprofit organization after learning her comments would be used in an article.
Shortly after she left TPUSA, Clanton was hired by Ginni Thomas to assist with her right-wing media ventures.
Clanton attended this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference with the Supreme Court justice’s wife, as well as traveled with her this earlier this summer to Dallas to visit to TPUSA’s Young Women Leadership conference. While there, the pair posed for photos with activists and TPUSA staffers. They also advocated for the ultra-conservative Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) to be the next speaker of the House.
Clanton, Ginni Thomas and Clarence Thomas have not responded to requests for comments.
