When he takes office on Jan. 1, Dr. Ernest Grant will be the first man to serve as president of the American Nurses Association.
Grant, an internationally recognized burn care and fire safety expert, currently oversees the nationally acclaimed North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill. In his new capacity, Grant will represent the interests of the nation’s 4 million registered nurses, of which an estimated 90 percent are women.
The North Carolina native completed the licensed practical nurse program at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College before earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing at North Carolina Central University in Durham.
Grant earned a master’s degree in nursing education and his doctorate in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
