(NNPA)—A study from the American Heart Association finds that watching three or more hours of television everyday—as opposed to one hour or less—doubles the chance of premature death.

Using a sample of 13,284 Spanish college students, the researchers studied the link between sedentary activities, such as computer use, watching television, and driving, and risk of death. The results did not find a link between risk of death and the other activities.

According to the study’s authors, more research is needed to understand the relationship and how extended television viewing affects physiology.
