Fairfax Water, a nonprofit water utility service, said applications for financial assistance from the COVID-19 Municipal Utility Relief Program are available for eligible residents who are having a hard time paying their bills due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Fairfax Water said it is working with the cities of Falls Church and Fairfax and the Fairfax County government to administer the program, WTOP reported.

Applications must be submitted by the close of business Wednesday.

Susan Miller, a spokeswoman for Fairfax Water, said Virginia planned to end its moratorium on utility disconnections for missed payments in October but has extended it indefinitely, WTOP reported.

Fairfax County significantly leads the state in both coronavirus cases and related deaths with roughly 43,000 total cases and 687 deaths as of Monday, according to the county health department.
