Fauquier County Public Schools now require students to wear face masks or provide a note from a physician for a medical exemption.
The Northern Virginia school system made masks optional at the start of the school year, with about 15% of students choosing not to wear them, WRC-TV (Channel 4) reported.
FCPS officials soon changed course after coronavirus cases spiked, however, with the school system announcing last week that 370 students and three employees were in quarantine, WRC reported.
The school system said the new mask requirement will be enforced for at least two weeks.
“This mask requirement will remain in place to protect our students and staff along with our instructional goals until our numbers of positive cases and quarantines significantly decrease,” the county school board wrote in a letter to parents Sunday, WRC reported.
