The private, nonprofit H Street Community Development Corporation recently announced the groundbreaking for Livingston Place at Southern, a 152-unit senior housing community to be constructed at 306 Southern Ave. in Southeast.

The new complex will be designed to increase the community’s quality of life, will also provide high quality housing, health, personal assistance and other services to low- and moderate-income elderly District residents.

“We know that wards 7 and 8 have a higher percentage of low- and moderate-income seniors who need housing and other assistance and who have a right to a decent quality of life and independence” said Ken Brewer, CEO of HSCDC. “We are proud to be involved with this outstanding team of public and private sector partners who understand the housing needs of our seniors and believe that they should be able to age safely, comfortably, and affordably in their homes and communities.”

Each of the 152 single-occupancy, one-bedroom and studio apartment will have its own bathroom and kitchenette. A separate dining room will serve three nutritious meals. In addition, Livingston Place will provide laundry and housekeeping services, recreational and social activities as well as transportation to community activities and appointments. There will be also be common spaces for social interaction and organized activities.
