New year, new start, right? Well, we all know what a pain the old new year’s resolution can be, but there’s never been a better time for people to start revamping their eating habits. This past year, we saw a rise in things like Poke, meal kits and subscription services for just about everything.

According to Whole Foods, times are changing.

So while healthy eating and self-care is different for everyone, we’ve compiled a list of a few things to look out for on grocery store shelves in 2018.

Your next food trends, right here:

Plant-Based Gets an Upgrade

Long gone are the anemic veggie burgers and shameful tofurkeys of yore — the next phase in plant-based cuisine is a little more high-tech than it’s been in the past. Think bleeding burgers, vegan cheese prepared with care, and more non-dairy milk. Just don’t call it “fake milk.” These tasty sips do truly hold their own in this class.

No longer are plant-based foods consider the fake version of the animal-based fare. Expect a little more innovation in 2018, and more mainstream veggie and vegan options. With chains like By Chloe and Amy’s Drive Thru, fast food is getting a facelift.

Floral Flavors

Rose, hibiscus, elderflower, and beyond. We’re not talking gardens here, either, these unique flavors are heading for your desserts, sparkling waters, cocktails, and more.
The Next Phase in Superfoods

Okay, matcha and turmeric, acai berries, you get the idea — these guys have all been in the Whole Foods rotation for a while now.

Sure, you’re probably already using whey protein or hemp in your smoothie, but 2018 is about to rock your world when it comes to superfoods. Be on the lookout for more turmeric and matcha, as well as things like spirulina, cacao, and maca root and cacao.

Beyond superfoods, if you’re looking for more ways to get in shape, it’s a good idea to do some reading about weight loss and diets on BestOnlineReviews.com.

Magic Mushrooms

No, not those kind. Fungi are having a major moment right now. Put your portobellos aside and dive into those varietals that support wellness. Reishi and chaga mushrooms, for example, are starting to show up in bottled beverages, and now they’re coming for your coffee and tea.

It’s not to say the use of reishi mushrooms are in any way new — they’ve long been used within the health food community to boost the immune system and provide a little antioxidant booster.
What Else is Gaining Popularity in 2018?

Keep on the lookout for nostalgia-based meals — items they served in the steakhouses from the old days; meatloaf, prime rib, whole chickens, and deviled eggs. Sure, these items haven’t really gone anywhere, but they haven’t been the on the cutting boards of the hottest restaurants in recent years.

Additionally, you’ll likely start seeing more fancy, non-alcoholic drinks, and an increase in Mediterranean foods.
