Kwame Williams has named director of the D.C. metropolitan area for the Social Security Administration, the agency’s Philadelphia regional commissioner announced.
In his new capacity, Williams will plan and coordinate activities of the Social Security Administration district offices located in D.C., the Maryland cities of Silver Spring, Rockville, Greenbelt, Camp Springs and Charlotte Hall, the Virginia cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Manassas, Culpeper and Winchester, and Martinsburg, W.Va.
“I look forward to working with the Washington, D.C. area Social Security offices management and staff as we serve area residents,” Williams said in a statement.
William, who comes to the Washington area from his position as District Manager in Charleston, S.C., earned his bachelor of science degree from South Carolina State University and a master’s degree in human resource development from Webster University.
He began his career with the Social Security Administration in 1992 as a co-operative student in the Orangeburg, S.C., district office, and has since advanced through several increasingly responsible positions that include district manager of offices in Moultrie, Ga., and Fredericksburg, Va.
Williams also highlighted the recently launched campaign to warn people about the ongoing nationwide telephone impersonation scheme, which can be accessed online at www.youtube.com/socialsecurity.
Scammers mislead victims into making cash or gift card payments for help with purported identity theft, or to avoid arrest for bogus Social Security number problems.
“If a suspicious caller states there is a problem with their Social Security number or personal information, hang up,” Williams said, adding that people should go online to oig.ssa.gov to report the scam.
