What’s up with our Black politicians? Time and time again all we read about is how some of them are caught doing something that’s illegal. Your story on the front page of the June 30, 2016, edition, “Fattah Resigns amid Racketeering Conviction,” by Stacy Brown is the latest example of a Black politician facing jail time for committing a crime. I used to think when our Black politicians were caught doing these types of things they were just being set up to discredit Black political power. Now I see it as just plain old greed and hunger for more power. It used to be only white politicians who would be caught up in these kinds of crimes, but now I see it’s not limited to any race, it’s just politicians, and they are all criminals. Seems like if you look hard enough at any politician you can find something that they are doing that’s illegal, and that’s a sad commentary on American politics.

I thought your coverage of the NNPA Annual Convention in Houston in the June 30, 2016, edition was phenomenal. I would like to congratulate you on winning second place for your paper’s layout and design, and especially for the second place award for best sports section. Winning second place is not all that bad when you are going up against the type of competition your paper has to face, but I know if you are in a competition the ultimate goal is to win. I have a suggestion that I think will make your sports section better: Have a monthly section on area high school athletes. The Washington D.C. area has some of the most talented high school athletes, and it would be great if your sports section could give updates on their progress through high school and on into college. I think it would be great for the community to know what, where and how our young athletes are doing. It is just my suggestion. Again, congratulations on winning your awards. Here’s to more victories in the future.
