Maryland now has more than 400,000 confirmed coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic, according to state health department statistics.

The state reached the mark with 1,007 cases reported Sunday — the fourth straight day Maryland logged more than 1,000 cases. Another 682 cases on Monday put the state total at 400,705.

The state’s death toll is also on the cusp of a grim milestone, with the 14 virus-related fatalities reported Monday putting the overall number at 7,999.

The number of virus-related hospitalizations has also crept upward in recent days, hitting 866 Monday after falling as low as 765 on March 12, according to the health department.

Of those hospitalized, 205 were in intensive care.

So far, Maryland has administered more than 2.2 million coronavirus vaccine doses, with roughly 791,000 residents now fully vaccinated.
