Maryland reported 766 new coronavirus cases and five virus-related deaths Monday.
Hospitalizations jumped by 30 from Sunday to 576 — 129 of whom are in intensive care. Additionally, the state’s seven-day daily average positivity rate rose to 4.65%, up 0.11% from the previous day.
Earlier this month, Gov. Larry Hogan said virtually every new coronavirus infection is due to the delta variant, a highly transmissible strain that has become widespread not only in the state but throughout the country.
The governor said less than 0.01% of vaccinated Marylanders have been hospitalized because of the virus and less than 0.001% of vaccinated residents have died to the virus, <a href=”https://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2021/08/15/covid-19-in-maryland-more-than-800-new-cases-4-deaths-reported-sunday/” target=”blank”>Baltimore’s WJZ-TV reported</a>.
As of Monday, roughly 80% of state residents 18 and older have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, with 3.6 million now fully vaccinated, according to a health department dashboard.
