Maryland has seen a glimmer of hope in recent days among its coronavirus data amid a surge in new cases, as virus-related hospitalizations start to gradually decrease again.

The state’s current number of coronavirus-related hospitalizations decreased by 7 on Monday, bringing the total to 1,233. Though the daily total has not been less than 1,000 since March 28, Monday marked the second consecutive day the number has decreased after rising steadily and rapidly over the past month.

Hospitalizations had fallen as low as 765 on March 12 after a pandemic peak of 1,952 just two months earlier.

Maryland reported 985 new coronavirus cases Monday, bringing the overall total to 427,715, according to state health department statistics.

The department reported the state’s positivity rate currently sits at 5.6%, up 0.19% from the previous day.
