Details of the memorial services for Clark Ray, District of Columbia State Athletic Association executive director and longtime LBGTQ activist, have been announced.

A public viewing and farewell celebration will be held Saturday, June 12 at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center for Ray, who died Saturday.

The gathering will be hosted by former D.C. first lady Cora Masters Barry with the viewing to begin at 10 a.m., followed at 11 a.m. at the center.

At the time of his death, Ray had more than 20 years of political and government service in the District of Columbia, serving under four mayors including Anthony Williams, Adrian Fenty, Vincent Gray and Muriel Bowser, according to a press release.

Throughout his career in the D.C. government, Clark also served as founder/executive director of the DCSAA, where he coordinated school athletics programs in the city’s public schools, public charter schools and private and parochial schools. He is also a former director of the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation, according to the release.

“We here at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center are heartbroken over the loss of our friend, leader, and champion of youth athletics, Clark Ray,” Masters Barry said in the release. “We are honored to host his Farewell Services at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center, a place he knew well and where he staged many of his citywide events.

Ray is survived by husband Aubrey Dubra, mother Gerry Ray and brother Mike Ray.
