Roughly 1,000 students and staffers in Montgomery County Public Schools have already had to quarantine during the first week of school amid numerous coronavirus outbreaks within the school system.
Among the affected schools are Burning Tree Elementary, Brookhaven Elementary, Flower Valley Elementary, Greenwood Elementary and Lakelands Park Middle School, WJLA-TV (Channel 7) reported.
MCPS, which is the state’s largest school district, updated its COVID-19 policy to say that students will be sent home if they have close contact with a person who exhibits symptoms such as fever, sore throat, cough, difficulty breathing, diarrhea, vomiting, new headaches or new loss of taste and smell.
Anyone sent home must quarantine for 10 days, and a negative coronavirus test is required to return, according to the updated policy, WJLA reported.
