The coronavirus pandemic, coupled with the self-serving, corrupt and inept governance of Donald J. Trump and his greedy lackeys make it clear to me that the White Man’s domination over world affairs is coming quickly to an end. It’s like the United States and its self-image of “American exceptionalism” are heading to hell on a rocket.

And with the demise of U.S. hegemony, only tiny Israel will remain as the only white colonial power. For decades Israel has been like the tail wagging the American dog, so without the superpower support, the apartheid Zionist state will not be able to continue bullying her Middle East neighbors, running roughshod over the indigenous Palestinians.

England, the United Kingdom, which once fashioned itself as “Great Britain,” was the face of white supremacy. “The Sun never sets on the British flag” was the boast, because the empire reigned in every time zone on the planet, so there was never a time when the Union Jack was not flying over some land, in the daylight. But those days came to an end a century ago.

Folks once proclaimed: “10,000 Frenchmen can’t be wrong,” or maybe it was 1,000 Frenchmen, or millions of them. Torch singer Sophie Tucker even recorded a song, “50 million Frenchmen can’t be wrong,” alluding to the myth of the superiority of French culture, cuisine, and fashion. Beirut, Lebanon, a former French colony was even known as the “Paris of the Middle East,” thought to be a compliment concerning the city’s sophistication.

But as cruel as they were in some of their colonies in Africa and Asia, the French really didn’t have much of a stomach for world domination.

The Italians and the Portuguese were also petty world powers for a time, but they too were soon pushed to the side.

The Germans tried, but overstepped the boundaries, and were crushed by Russia and the Allies in World War II and were subsequently defanged. After the War, no longer having to pursue military conquest or even self-defense because of allied occupation of their territory, the Krauts, with their Axis ally Japan — which was crushed by the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki 75 years ago — took to civilian, economic competition and ruled the world financially, manufacturing the world’s best consumer products — cars and electronics.

The United States took the World Superpower Championship when this country beat the Russkies to the Moon, wore down the Communist economy, and forced the breakup of the Soviet Union.

But even as the U.S. was emerging in the late 20th century as the only superpower, China, with a huge, well-educated population and huge land mass began to rise, but not yet able to take on the Americans in a fight. What caused the undoing of this country was its seething, restless Black and brown population, demanding Freedom, Justice, and Equality; demanding their share of The American Dream.

Undecided about how to deal with the demands from the Blacks and the browns — that is knowing that to live up to the true meaning of the American Creed, justice had to be served, but at the same time not wanting to surrender the white privilege which kept their tribe on top — the White Man gave a little, but not enough to the teeming underclass. As the expectations of non-whites grew after the civil rights movement — the Second Reconstruction — and as whites saw their underlings rising, demanding equality, the backlash began.

At first it was polite and guarded in political language — opposition to school integration, opposition to fair housing, opposition to fair employment practices — and then, with the advent of Trumpism, the full-blown, race-hatred came out of the closet.

With Trump’s “Make America Great Again” appeals to roll back the clock to 1950s America, when Dad was the Boss, and when Negroes and women knew their places and stayed in them, swept through a large swath of U.S. society. Now, neither side can be mollified. Non-whites will no longer accept second-class status, and a plurality of whites feel like they’ve already given up too much.

The problem for Mighty Whitey in this country is they did not learn the lessons of history. White supremacy’s army surrendered at the Appomattox, Virginia Court House on April 9, 1865. The white supremacists surrendered again, unconditionally, on May 7, 1945, at Reims, in northeastern France ending World War II.

Sadly, the Trumpistas didn’t learn. They seem to think they know something their forebearers didn’t know. They’re wrong. Whether it’s at the ballot box in November, or at some other place later on, white supremacy, white world power will be defeated yet again — permanently this time.
