(Modern Readers) – The Spurs’ Summer League team was coached by former WNBA star Becky Hammon, who was previously hired as the first full-time female assistant coach in NBA history.  As the first woman to coach a Summer League team, and also the first to win a championship, she had validated the trust put in her by the Spurs’ organization, and for Silver, there’s a solid chance she, or any other woman, may be in charge of an actual NBA team as head coach.

“No different than for me in coming up in my career, unless you’re given those opportunities, you’re never going to show your ability to be successful,” said Silver in a recent statement at the Beyond Sports United program.
