Prince George’s leaders joined churches, schools and the county police department Saturday for the annual “Thanksgiving Baskets Giveaway,” distributing over 900 turkeys at four different locations.
Class Act Productions CEO and President Karen McConnell-Jones, who has been the drive’s chief coordinator for the past five years, said the event is committed to helping others more than ever before.
“The Class Act team and I are truly dedicated to coordinating such an event each year for the sole purpose of being a blessing to so many families in need, and we truly know it takes a collaborative effort to make this all possible,” she said.
Former Prince George’s County Council member Ingrid Turner (District 4) sponsored turkeys for two of the locations — Shammah Ministries 21st Century Church in District Heights and Drew-Freedman Middle School in Suitland.
“As a community leader, it’s my honor to be hands-on and in the community of my people in which I serve,” Turner said. “Many thank you’s go out to all the volunteers and to Mayor Malinda Miles of Mount Rainer, Maryland, for help making this day complete. To see the look of appreciation on the faces of the families, with some actually being tearful, makes me want to give more and do more for the people of our community.”
Pastor Robert Johnson of New Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, a collaborative partner with Class Act for the past four years, assisted with the Capitol Heights distribution, while county police helped serve the Hyattsville area.
