Prince George’s County has released guidance for Halloween, stating that traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating is not recommended.
Trunk-or-treats should be shifted to one-way, drive-thru distributions for candy, county officials said. Residents are also encouraged to attend events sponsored by the county or municipal governments.
Tutoring Assistance
Students in kindergarten through second grade can receive free virtual reading tutoring with trained tutors. The classes begin in November and will take place twice a week in the afternoons through April 2021.

Through Thursday, Nov. 5, elementary students can view school lessons on PGCPS-TV (channels 96/Comcast and 38/Verizon). Instructional videos cover reading, math, science, social studies, and electives and will also be available through that time.
Meal Distribution Locations Shutter
Several meal delivery and distribution locations have closed due to low usage.
Free meals are now available (except for holidays) for pickup to those ages 2 to 18 on Mondays and Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
While children picking up meals do not have to show identification, adults picking up meals without children should show a student ID or a most recent report card to support the number of meals requested.
All schools except Fort Foote and Tayac Elementary Schools and Robert Goddard Montessori will serve as meal distribution sites.
Meals can be picked up at the closest school in one’s community. Students will need to provide their name, PIN number and the school enrolled in if they pick up a meal from a school they do not regularly attend.
Meals will be prepackaged and distributed two days per week between 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at school locations.
Monday – meals for Monday and Tuesday
Wednesday – meals for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday
Meals will be distributed between 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at designated community locations for students who live at least 1.5 miles from the nearest schools.

Hispanic Heritage Recognition
In closing out Hispanic Heritage Month, sixth graders at Kettering Middle School showed off their language skills by presenting research entirely in Spanish and interviewing teachers in Spanish to learn more about their backgrounds, dialects and cultures.
Kettering’s immersion team comes from countries including Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Spain and the United States.
Meanwhile, the 2020-21 school year marks the first time for the Spanish immersion program in middle schools.
