The Eleanor Roosevelt High School band will perform 7:30 p.m., Dec. 12 at Peabody Institute/Friedberg Hall.

Parent-Teacher Conference Success
This is the time for parents to check in on their child’s academic progress and one of the best ways to do so is through parent-teacher conferences.
As a result, parents can become involved and informed of what’s going on in the classroom. To make the most of one-on-one time with teachers before conference, parents are urged to talk to their child about how they feel about school and if there’s anything they would like you to discuss with their teacher.
Parents can also review their child’s assignments and report card and note areas for improvement and take notes of things they’d like to discuss.
Specialty Programs Deadlines
Applications for many specialty programs are due Friday, Nov. 15.
The application deadline for Creative and Performing Arts and International Baccalaureate programs has been extended to Sunday, Dec. 1.
Inclement Weather Notifications
PGCPS has made a concerted effort this year to inform parents and students of delays and closures with as much advance notice as possible. However, during times when decisions are not as timely, please know school officials are doing their best.
PGCPS issues notifications in numerous ways (i.e., its website, email and text, phone bulletin board and local media). And while some technology may be faster than others, a social media post with critical information will often be available sooner than a website update or email and text message.
It is PGCPS’s long-standing practice to remain open as long as roads are safe, open and passable, and predicted to remain so.
In the event of inclement weather, the decision to open or close schools will be made prior to 5:30 a.m. on the day in question and communicated as soon as possible to the media, parents and staff.
Adopt-A-School Program
The Adopt-A-School Program was created to support public schools throughout the county through enhanced educational experiences, financial support and volunteerism focused on improving outcomes for students. The goal is to ensure all schools are adopted by a business, community or interfaith partner by the start of the 2019-20 school year.
Program components include college and career exposure, financial support of at least $5,000 through in-kind donations and/or monetary contributions (per adopted school), and volunteer service to participate in at least one school-sponsored activity.
