Rev. Jesse Jackson was discharged Wednesday from a rehab facility after receiving successful treatment for COVID-19.

Jackson, 79, and his wife, Jacqueline, 77, were admitted to the Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago on Aug. 21 after testing positive. Jacqueline, who spent time in the intensive care unit, was discharged on Sept. 4.

Jackson was discharged from Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, where he had been transferred to in order to treat his Parkinson’s disease, CNBC reported.

While Jackson had been fully vaccinated, his wife had not out of concern for a “preexisting condition,” The Associated Press reported.

“Both my parents are ever so thankful for all of the prayers, cards and calls they have received during this very trying period of their lives,” their son Jonathan Jackson, the national spokesperson for the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, said in a statement.

Both Jackson and his wife have now tested negative, according to their family.
