WETATi Center 4 Creative Thinking, Leadership and Entrepreneurship, in partnership with Nyumburu Cultural Center, the University of Maryland College Park and Bowie State University’s Center for Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Nursing, recently announced the appointment of Tim Adams as WETATi’s 2018 honorary convention chair.

Adams, president and CEO of Systems Applications &Technologies, will also serve on May 11 as the convention’s keynote speaker as well as the Scholarship and Awards Gala closing keynoter on May 12. The convention theme is “Leading and Changing the Economic Narrative 4 the Next Generation through Entrepreneurship, Education & Empowerment.”

“Mr. Adams is a strong proponent of issues affecting persons with disabilities, who has given his time, attention and service on the Committee for Review for the Americans with Disabilities Act,” WETATi said in a statement. “Adams has additionally volunteered his time and made a strong commitment to the Patriots Technology Training Center located in Seat Pleasant, Md.

“Adams is a mentor to the community and has especially assisted students in finding resources to attend college,” the statement read. “He is a corporate citizen of the people, whose awards and honors span the world. As a movement and not a monument, Adams is making impacts daily as a visionary leader.”

Adams’ Largo, Md.-based SA-TECH, which has been recognized as one of the Top 100 Privately Held Companies in U.S., is one of Black Enterprise’s Top 100 Industrial/Services Black Businesses in the nation, and one of Maryland’s Top 50 Diversity-Owned Businesses.

In addition to being named the Baltimore Washington Corridor Chamber’s Large Business of the Year for 2010, SA-TECH is a recipient of the Prince George’s County Black Chamber of Commerce Exemplary Business Recognition Award.

Adams, who has been extremely active in keeping the issues of small business in front of national leaders, has testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on “Small Business and Entrepreneurship,” with recommendations to the federal government on how it can improve its contracting and procurement procedures as they relate to small businesses.

As a community leader and philanthropist, he has helped multitudes of people in the Prince George’s County community and beyond, with student scholarships and more.

Adams resides in Bowie, Md., with his wife, the Honorable Sheila R. Tillerson Adams, and twins, Timothy, Jr. and Kayla. His daughter, Tiara, is a junior at Bowie State University.
