The seven-day moving average of new daily coronavirus cases in the U.S. was 68,767 Sunday, the most since the pandemic began.

Over the past seven days, the U.S. added 481,372 new cases — the most the nation has added over a seven-day period, CNN reported Monday, citing a Johns Hopkins University tracker.

The period includes the highest recorded single days for new cases on Friday and Saturday, with both exceeding 80,000, CNN reported.

Sunday’s figure — 60,789 — was lower but was still the highest reported number for a Sunday since July 22, CNN reported, pointing out that new case totals are routinely lower on Sundays and Mondays, reflecting slower reporting weekends.

As of Monday, the U.S. has approximately 8.6 million coronavirus cases and 225,000 death — both tops globally — according to the Johns Hopkins tracker.
