The U.S. saw 1,499 coronavirus-related deaths Wednesday — the highest one-day total since May.

The seven-day average of daily coronavirus deaths exceeded 1,000 Wednesday, the 17th straight day the U.S. averaged over 1,000 deaths per day, CNN reported.

Georgia and Florida have the highest number of new cases per capita over the past seven days, followed by Alabama and Mississippi.

As of Thursday, the U.S. has roughly 5.2 million reported coronavirus cases, including more than 166,000 deaths, according to a Johns Hopkins University tracker.
