Yuan Zhiming, the director of the Wuhan Biosafety Lab in China, said Monday a claim by U.S. intelligence report that several lab researchers were hospitalized in November 2019 was “a complete lie.”

“Those claims are groundless,” Zhiming said to the Global Times, CNN reported. “The lab has not been aware of this situation, and I don’t even know where such information came from.”

Many pandemic experts throughout the world have said the coronavirus pandemic began in Wuhan, possibly at a food market. A Johns Hopkins University tracker reported Monday 167.2 million coronavirus cases with 3.4 million deaths worldwide with the U.S. leading both categories globally.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry had not responded to the accusations as of yet.
