Five million people have now been infected with the coronavirus throughout the world, with more than 329,000 cases resulting in death, according to Johns Hopkins University data.
The World Health Organization said 106,000 new coronavirus cases have been tallied worldwide since Wednesday, a one-day record since the beginning of the pandemic.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO director-general, said two-thirds of the new cases come from just four countries.
โWe still have a long way to go in this pandemic,โ Tedros said Wednesday. โWe are very concerned about rising cases in low- and middle-income countries.โ
