U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams on Sunday urged people to continue wearing face coverings during the coronavirus pandemic, asserting that doing so also promotes freedom.
Adams, who countered the notion that face coverings are too restrictive, said theyโre critical to slowing the spread of coronavirus as the nation begins to reopen the economy.
โSome feel face coverings infringe on their freedom of choice- but if more wear them, weโll have MORE freedom to go out,โ Adams tweeted Sunday morning.
In expressing that face coverings help slow asymptomatic spread of the virus, Adams encouraged people to โexercise and promote your freedom by choosing to wear a face covering!โ
Public health officials have continuously emphasized the importance of face coverings, which are primarily to prevent people with the virus from infecting others.
