Although scientists are on track to develop an effective and safe vaccine at record speed, newly released information from multiple manufacturers of a COVID-19 vaccine are bolsteromg glimmers of hope, according to research outcomes.
While three research groups on Monday separately released early positive results related to an effective vaccine for long-term protection against the virus, experts caution that such early studies, though promising, will need to be confirmed with larger Phase 3 trials involving tens of thousands of people.
So far, there are at least 23 COVID-19 vaccine candidates that have progressed to various stages of human studies, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Professor Adrian Hill, director of Oxfordโ€™s Jenner Institute, in an interview with ABC News, called the latest data very โ€œencouraging,โ€ adding that experts are โ€œseeing both arms of the immune systems stimulated very strongly by the vaccine.โ€
