Prince Georgeโ€™s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks announced Tuesday an all-new Senior Housing Assistance Pilot Program.

The program is designed to aid eligible seniors with temporary financial assistance to help them stay in their homes. Seniors who qualify for the new pilot program will receive funds that they can use to pay their rent.

Alsobrooks acted based on the Prince Georgeโ€™s County Council passing senior living assistance legislation without a dedicated funding source.

โ€œI worked with our state representatives, including former state Sen. Melony Griffith, to secure $1 million to fund the Senior Housing Assistance Program,โ€ she said. โ€œWe are excited to now be working with Marylandโ€™s Department of Housing and Community Development to launch this new program in mid-March of this year.โ€

Assistance will be available to seniors 65 and older who live in the county, are a renter, and who have lived in the county for at least five years. Additionally, the renterโ€™s household income must be equal to or less than 40% of the Area Median Income (AMI) for the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Alsobrooks said if a loved one needs housing assistance before the program opens, call 301-909-7000.
