The Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation announced plans for several Black History Month events in February at various locations.
“Black History Month is a time for reflection, education and celebration,” said Dennis Doster, Black History program manager for the department.
Events include:
- Howard University’s jazz ensemble Afro Blue performs on Feb. 1 at Southern Area Aquatics and Recreation Complex.
- A screening of Anthony Davis’ opera “The Life and Times of Malcolm X” on Feb. 8 at Publick Playhouse.
- Curator Pete Duvall discusses the exhibit “The Sound of DC: A Visual History of Go-Go” on Feb. 15 at Brentwood Arts Exchange. Go-go is a style of funk music that originated in Washington in the 1970s.
- “Elegance Through the Eras,” featuring live music, fashion and entertainment, Feb. 22 at William Beanes Community Center.
