The National Newspaper Publishers Association, which represents Black-owned newspapers, announced plans for a national campaign targeting companies that have ended their diversity, equity and inclusion programs.

The campaign will combine public education with a selective buying effort, focusing on corporations that have cut DEI commitments and staff.

“We are the trusted voice of Black America, and we will not be silent to the rapid rise of renewed Jim Crow racist policies in corporate America,” said NNPA Chairman Bobby R. Henry Sr.

NNPA member publishers and editors agreed to release research on companies they say are “engaging in efforts to sanction racial injustice, inequitable policies, divisive leadership, and economic apartheid in America.”

“Black Americans spend $2 trillion annually as consumers,” said NNPA President and CEO Benjamin F. Chavis Jr. “We must question why we continue to spend our money with companies that do not respect us.”

Companies that have publicly scaled back DEI programs include:

  • Target
  • Walmart
  • Amazon
  • Lowe’s
  • Meta
  • McDonald’s
  • John Deere
  • Tractor Supply
  • Ford
