Monumental Sports & Entertainment announced Thursday the “District Arts Collection,” a multimillion-dollar curated art and memorabilia collection as part of the renovated Capital One Arena in downtown Washington.

The collection, created in partnership with Sports & The Arts and supported by cllct, MSE’s official cultural history and collectibles partner, will transform the renovated Capital One Arena into a gallery spanning every interior level and the exterior.

Designed to celebrate the District’s culture, the collection will feature works by local artists, photographs from photojournalist Harry Benson, pieces on loan from local institutions and memorabilia from the Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards, Washington Mystics and other teams.

“The District Arts Collection marks a massive step in Monumental Sports’ commitment to not only elevate the fan experience at the renovated arena but to create a unique destination to celebrate the vibrant artistic spirit of Washington, D.C.,” said Jim Van Stone, president of business operations and chief commercial officer at MSE.

Local artists from throughout the DMV region are invited to submit applications to create pieces celebrating the Capitals, Wizards and/or Mystics. Artists of all experience levels may submit a short bio, CV, headshot and up to 10 sample images via PDF to DistrictArts@monumentalsports.com by May 9, 2025. Submissions should not exceed 10MB.

Selected artists will be commissioned for original works beginning this summer. All artists will be paid, and completed projects will be integrated into Capital One Arena throughout renovation over the next three years. Artists will receive promotion through social media and other events.
