Prince George’s County Council Chair Edward Burroughs will team up with a local nonprofit to distribute fresh produce to hundreds of residents facing food insecurity on World Hunger Day.
The drive-thru and walk-up food distribution will run from noon to 2 p.m. on May 28 at St. Stephen Baptist Church in Temple Hills.
Burroughs, a Democrat who represents District 8, and volunteers plan to distribute between 600 and 1,000 bags of fresh produce.
“We already had a high rate of food insecurity in our county, and unfortunately, federal layoffs mean even more people are left struggling to pay their bills and provide for their families,” Burroughs said. “I want people to know that there’s no shame in seeking assistance, even if it’s the first time you’ve needed it.”
Riverdale-based Passion and Compassion distributed more than 2.9 million pounds of produce and 3 million meals throughout the county last year.
