Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich wants to shut down indoor dining at restaurants beginning Tuesday amid the recent coronavirus surge.
Elrichโs executive order proposed Wednesday would allow outdoor dining and takeout service. But elsewhere, he would limit capacity at retail stores to 150 people and nonprofessional indoor sports to 10.
For religious facilities, outdoor service would be held to 25 people without an exemption from the county Department of Health and Human Services, while the indoors capacity couldnโt exceed 25 percent.
The county council would need to approve Elrichโs order, which would take effect at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
As of Thursday, Montgomery County has 37,194 coronavirus cases and 956 related deaths, according to county health department statistics.
