Washingtonians, hear me! We’ve watched D.C.’s elected officials sidle up to Trump’s GOP agenda for almost a whole year now. They have practically rolled out the red carpet for National Guard and ICE on our streets, facial recognition on every corner, billionaire developers with stadiums instead of subway stops. They kidnap neighbors while in masks and wearing guns; let luxury condos loom empty while 6,000 souls suffer this winter in shelters. But order will be restored. The Guard will march out, ICE will slink away, and there will be a reckoning for those who broke the law. Corporate news may forget, but we won’t. We’ll remember who capitulated without a fight, and we will hold them to account.
Too many elected officials aren’t doing enough; we can’t just sit quietly until this nightmare ends. We hold the power in our masses; if we organize, if you let me lead, we can forge real change for D.C. Dems in Congress squandered their best shot: They could’ve ended the filibuster during the shutdown, securing absolutely zero gains instead. They let our people ride the government’s longest shutdown for nothing. If they had held out for just a little longer, given up one Thanksgiving for the people, they could’ve delivered D.C. statehood. Chuck Schumer and establishment Dems fumbled our best chance in a long time, and they have no strategy for the people. I won’t let such missed opportunities happen under my watch, with your trust.
Trump stymies our state’s rights, guts AI regulations, unleashes data center monstrosities in our neighborhoods. These bourgeois behemoths guzzle our water, spike electric bills, steal our data to train job-killing AI, all while developers feast and our health care is stripped away. No more! Mutual aid is our shield — my team works hard to deliver, and as your Council member, we’ll scale it up, leveraging every resource particularly for Wards 7 and 8, as well as all wards. We will fight these bloodthirsty developers waiting like vultures to descend on our riverbanks, to push us back again.
Our children deserve fully resourced schools in the wealthiest nation’s capital, no excuses for a tiered system. Every kid gets an equal shot: safe streets with free activities, communal spaces alive with joy, made for them. Resilient drug programs to fight the heroin and cocaine funneled into Black and brown communities for generations making arms dealers and Big Pharma rich. Fill those empty, city-owned buildings with affordable apartments, not hollow promises.
If they ticket us with corner cameras but deny Metro stops, they’re not for us. If they wage war on the poor and addicted here while bombing nations gasping for freedom abroad, they’re not for us. The swamp has become an ocean of greed and corruption. But D.C. has endured darker nights, and we’ve never had more resources to resist, and we’ve never had more power.
Join the resistance. Get in the fight — this old game with new fire. Start in our neighborhoods; let elites take a seat until we’re satisfied. This is our city. Let’s take it back — for you!
