Police in Los Angeles arrested a 35-year-old woman on March 8 after authorities say she drove up to the home of global music star Rihanna and fired several rounds from an AR-15-style rifle while the singer and her family were on the property.
โFour rounds or fragments hit parts of the property,โ Los Angeles police reported after responding to the shooting at the Beverly Crest home the singer shares with hip-hop artist A$AP Rocky.ย
While the artist couple was on the property in an Airstream camping trailer, authorities said no one was injured in the shooting, which unfolded around 1:15 p.m. at the upscale residence located just outside Beverly Hills.
Investigators said Ivanna Ortiz arrived at the property and began firing toward the home before officers responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. Ortiz was taken into custody shortly after the shooting. Police recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the attack.
The Los Angeles County District Attorneyโs office reported that the suspect was charged with 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and three felony counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper.
The District Attorneyโs office is considering 10 victims in the charges: Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, their three children, three household staff members, and two people at a neighboring home.
Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Mike Bland said officials are still working to determine what led to the gunfire and whether the suspect had any connection to the singer.
โMore information on the woman, including booking allegations, would be released Monday,โ Bland said in a statement.
Investigators from the Los Angeles Police Departmentโs Robbery-Homicide Division have taken over the case. The unit typically handles major crimes and high-profile investigations.
Helicopter video captured after the shooting showed what appeared to be damage to a gate at the property. Yellow crime scene tape blocked the street outside the residence while officers canvassed the area for evidence. Officials said it was not immediately known whether A$AP Rocky or the coupleโs children were at home when the gunfire erupted.
Representatives for the singer and her partner did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The incident shook one of the most exclusive residential pockets in Los Angeles. The Beverly Crest neighborhood sits roughly 20 miles northwest of downtown and is known for hillside estates and high-profile residents. The property targeted Sunday belongs to one of the most recognizable artists in modern music, fashion and business.
Investigators continue to examine evidence collected from the scene and interview witnesses.
“When an individual comes into our community and decides to shoot it up, that individual will be arrested and held fully accountable for her actions,” District Attorney Nathan Hochman said in a March 1o press conference outside the Los Angeles County courthouse.
