What are your thoughts on the D.C. (June 16) and Maryland (June 23) primary results?
Asmara Sium, Northeast D.C.
“I am hopeful. I was pleasantly surprised. People want change, and they want their elected officials to do a better job at representing the middle class. I am really hopeful [for] what Janice will bring to the district.”
John May, Northeast D.C.
โThis is personal. This is the way I feel about how the D.C. government has been run for years. They promise so much to these kids and these teenagers [and] these parents and then once they win and get elected, they never come back. I love the way they did this year. When you get to pick your candidates and whoever got the highest number is the one that gets to go in.โ
Hilary Daniel, Northeast D.C.
“Iโm excited for a fresh face, new ideas, and a new way of thinking for the city!”
Sumara Thompson-King, Glendale, Maryland
“My observation about the election is that we still have the same old guard in place.ย There may be some new faces, but still the same old, same old, and that’s a little bit concerning.โ
Dr. Natalie Hopkinson, Northwest D.C.
โIย think that D.C. voters have been wanting a change for a long time.ย They’ve not been happy with the direction the city’s been going in.ย Janeese Lewis George was already leading in the polls, because people were really interested in change and her platform โ her aggressive platform of equity in D.C. And when Donald Trump made the comments on the race, he almost assured that she was going to win.ย Because one thing about D.C. voters is that we have such little democracy here, that we don’t squander it. And if we have a chance to, we send a message, whether it’s to the president of the United States, or whether it’s to the business interests that have had their way in the city, or whatever.โ
