In a region defined by political power plays and the non-stop hustle of daily life, it is easy to find ourselves carrying a heavy load. Between the gridlock on I-495 and the balancing act of family, finances and career, the daily grind in the DMV can quickly leave our spirits running on empty. But we weren’t designed to live under constant pressure and division; we all need a dedicated space to pause, reset, and finally find a place to exhale.

This universal need reminds me of the comforting invitation found in Matthew 11:28, where the Lord says, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” It is a timeless truth that when the world around us becomes too loud, we must consciously seek out pockets of stillness to restore our souls. Real, substantive rest is not just about physical sleep; it is about stepping away from the external noise and entering a sanctuary where our minds can finally find some release.

Fortunately for our community, my friend, Sister Dr. Jenna, the Director of the DMV Brahma Kumaris has created this wonderful ‘FREE’ opportunity for us to experience that very kind of renewal and refreshment right here in the DMV.

On Sunday, Sept. 20, from noon to 5 p.m., the Brahma Kumaris Meditation Museum is hosting the Inner Peace Summit at their Virginia location in Chantilly. This is not a standard, formal conference where you sit in a chair for hours listening to lectures. Instead, it is designed as a fully immersive community experience meant to help you quiet your mind, restore your emotional balance, and reconnect with your inner hope. Best of all, this beautiful afternoon of wellness and connection is completely free and open to all residents looking for a reprieve from the daily grind.

When you walk through the doors, you will find a vibrant tapestry of practical paths to personal well-being. The summit will feature a wide range of interactive activities, including deep meditation immersives, soothing sound baths, Kundalini yoga and therapeutic art sessions.

If you are looking for guidance on physical and emotional alignment, there will be Ayurvedic wellness consultations, self-care experiences and quiet reflection spaces scattered throughout the venue. It is a rare chance to sample different healing modalities all in one afternoon, giving you a chance to discover what truly speaks to your own heart and mind.

The lineup of featured speakers and presenters brings a powerful mix of leadership, inspiration and wisdom to the event.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from:

• Rep. Suhas Subramanyam, D-Va., represents Virginia’s 10th Congressional District, bringing a dedicated voice of public service and community leadership to the stage.

• Iyanla Vanzant is a beloved life coach, spiritual teacher and renowned television personality celebrated for her powerful ability to help individuals transform their lives and heal their hearts.

• Venerable Bhikkhu Paññākāra serves as the inspiring leader of the Walk for Peace, dedicating his life to spreading mindfulness, compassion and global harmony.

• Sister Dr. Jenna is the visionary Director of the DMV Brahma Kumaris, a spiritual mentor and a trusted voice for peace who helps individuals cultivate inner strength and resilience.

• Valerie Still is a former WNBA star and dedicated athlete who uses her platform to inspire others toward peak personal development and holistic wellness.

• Dr. Ivy Hylton is a gifted sacred performance artist and professional sound healer who uses the power of frequency and music to restore emotional balance and wellness.

• Elisabeth Carson travels the world as a dynamic motivational speaker, empowering global audiences to overcome obstacles and tap into their highest potential.

• Kelle Jacob serves as an expert transformation coach, guiding individuals through the deep internal shifts required to live purposeful and fulfilling lives.

There will be other guest speakers as well. Each speaker brings a unique perspective on resilience, but they are all united by a singular, vital message: while you might not have the power to stop the storm raging around you, you absolutely have the power to change the atmosphere within you.

This internal shift is the foundation of true peace. Scripture beautifully reinforces this in Philippians 4:7, promising that “the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” When we cultivate this inner tranquility, the external chaos loses its grip on our joy and stability.

What makes this upcoming gathering distinctive and timely is its focus on our shared humanity above all else. In a season where everything seems designed to divide us by political parties, socio-economic status or theological lines, the organizers are intentional about building a bridge. This is not about Republican peace or Democratic peace. It is not about drawing lines between different religious traditions.

It is simply about human peace. It is an invitation to lay down our labels at the door and meet one another as human beings who are trying to navigate the same complex world.

As Sister Dr. Jenna beautifully noted, Washington carries the weight of the nation, but the people who live and work here are human beings first. They need somewhere to put that weight down, even if just for a few hours. The Inner Peace Summit is providing that exact space, a visual, living community story of hope and healing.

If your spirit has been feeling a little heavy lately, or if you simply need a moment to breathe deeply among friends, make plans to attend.

The event takes place at the Brahma Kumaris Meditation Museum – Virginia, located at 14020 Thunderbolt Place, Suite 200, in Chantilly, Virginia. Though admission is free, registration is required at www.meditationmuseum.org.
