One person in the U.S. has died of a coronavirus-related illness every 33 seconds over the past week, CNN reported Monday.

CNN, citing data from a Johns Hopkins University tracker, reported 18,462 related deaths from Dec. 28-Jan. 3, or more than 2,600 deaths daily.

December was the United Statesโ€™ deadliest month of the coronavirus pandemic so far, with 77,572 deaths, CNN reported. In contrast, November saw 36,964 deaths.

As of Monday, the U.S. has roughly 20.7 million coronavirus cases and 352,000 related deaths, both tops globally, according to the Johns Hopkins tracker.
