D.C. police are investigating reports of a man attempting to sell a coronavirus vaccine to fellow tenants at his Northeast apartment building.
A Thursday night post on the online message board for the Camden NOMA apartment building offered the sale of a vaccine dose, WTTG-TV (Channel 5) reported.
“Anyone want a COVID vaccine?” the post said. “I have an extra Pfizer. Minimal side effects. I am an RN. $500. OBO.”
The seller, who included his name, cellphone number and apartment number, said he had “documentation” regarding his vaccine, WTTG reported. The post was deleted later that night, and a tenant alerted the city health department the next day.
Metropolitan Police and the D.C. attorney general are both investigating the matter. No arrests have been made as of Monday.
MPD issued a statement Monday that it had been notified of “individuals in the District selling ‘extra’ COVID-19 vaccinations.”
“If you receive any messages or calls about the private sale of a vaccine, report this fraudulent activity,” the department said.
Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt, the city’s health director, reiterated Monday that coronavirus vaccines are free.
“There are no offsite sales of vaccines,” she said at a news conference, WTTG reported. “No one will have to purchase a vaccine for a price.”
As of Tuesday, D.C. has administered 62,219 of its available 83,125 coronavirus vaccine doses, or about 75%, according to city statistics.
