Dr. Anthony Fauci says itโs โabsolutely notโ safe to have Super Bowl parties this Sunday.
The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and President Bidenโs chief medical adviser said such get-togethers arenโt smart amid the coronavirus pandemic and run the risk of becoming a superspreader event.
โWatch the Super Bowl on TV, enjoy it, have a party in your house with your family, with the people who are there,โ Fauci said Wednesday on ABCโs โGood Morning America,โ CNN reported. โYou donโt want parties with people that you havenโt had much contact with โ you just donโt know if theyโre infected. So as difficult as that is, at least this time around, just lay low and cool it.
โIf people abide by the public health measuresโmasking, distancing, avoiding congregate settings, and being outside and at a distance from others, you could be OK, as long as people abide by that and donโt slip,โ he said, CNN reported.
As of Wednesday, the U.S. has roughly 26.5 million coronavirus cases and 448,000 related death, both tops globally, according to data from a Johns Hopkins University tracker.
Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will take on the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV. The game will air on CBS beginning at 6:30 p.m. EST Sunday.
