PepsiCo, which promised to drop the Aunt Jemima product name amid the George Floyd protests, has rebranded its line of pancake mixes and syrups as Pearl Milling Company after years of pressure to get rid of what critics called a racial stereotype. What are your thoughts?
Karen Powell, Washington, D.C.
Sheโs been out there for decades. I think they should just leave it alone. I grew up eating them pancakes, my children, my grandchildren, and so on. If they have to change it, her family deserves all the royalties. I will not be buying it anymore if she is not on the box and I donโt think itโs [related to] slavery. Thatโs just my opinion.
Ally Boyd, Atlanta
It should be changed to Pearl Milling Company. Rest in peace, Nancy Green. The company probably didnโt pay her or her family for the use of her picture, either.
Lynda Connor, Fairburn, Ga.
I donโt use it so Iโm like, whatever. Changing the name or face shouldnโt matter as long as there isnโt a change in taste.
Carla Smith, Washington, D.C.
If you donโt know why this is offensive to people in the African American community, you need some history lessons. This has gone on long enough. Change is here.
Quanna Pac, Washington, D.C.
The name โPearlโ is just not sitting right with me.
