Gospel music icon Kirk Franklin has come under scrutiny after his 33-year-old son released a recording of a heated exchange between the two in which Franklin went on an expletive-filled rant. The Grammy-winning artist has since issued a public apology. What are your thoughts?

People who are OK with the way Kirk spoke to his son [were] beat with extension cords. We have to break this generational curse that condones this type of abuse. Just because he is the parent does not make it OK. You give the respect that you want to receive. Weโre not canceling Kirk, but he has to take responsibility for his actions.

He was dealing with a grown, disrespectful, deceitful son who knew exactly what he was doing. Mr. Franklin is human. Just because you are a Christian doesnโt mean you are perfect and it certainly doesnโt mean you are immune to mistakes. We all have had our moments. Stop judging this man for the way he reacted. We have no right to judge anyone, and before you do, look in the mirror first and evaluate yourself.

Kirk didnโt lose his temper, heโs just sick of his sonโs B.S. and let it be known. Heโll need his dad before his dad needs him. Itโs called respect for thy parents.
Kymberly Williams, West Memphis, Ark.
I think Kirk is human. There [is] a range of emotions we experience as parents. He seemed angry. What drove him to that point? His son didnโt offer up what he did to provoke such a response. Then to leak it โฆ the son needs to grow up.
Melissa Upshaw, Lima, Ohio
He is human and people have no idea what has gone on prior to that call. โฆ Obviously, there are some deep family wounds. Right or wrong, he lost his cool. It happens to the best of us.
