Montgomery County leads the nation in children 12 and older being vaccinated against the coronavirus, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Dr. James Bridgers, Montgomeryโs deputy health officer, told top county officials Monday that roughly 71% of residents 12 and older are fully vaccinated, making the jurisdiction No. 1 nationwide among large counties with at least 300,000 residents, WTOP reported.
County data shows that more than 26,000 12-to-15-year-olds have received the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine in the county.
Bridgers attributed the success rate in the category to the school systemโs coordination with his department on vaccine clinics and parents making the effort to get their children vaccinated, WTOP reported.
As of Tuesday, about 54% of all county residents have been fully vaccinated, according to an online tracker.
