Arlington County is requiring all government employees and public school personnel to be vaccinated against the coronavirus beginning on Aug. 30.
The mandate includes interns, volunteers, substitutes and contractors.
โ€œArlington County is requiring vaccinations for its employees because itโ€™s the best way to keep people safe, especially as the region sees an increasing trend of COVID-19 cases,โ€ said County Manager Mark Schwartz, WUSA-TV (Channel 9) reported. โ€œOur top priority continues to be the health and well-being of our employees, residents and community. When anyone visits a county government facility, they deserve to know that we have done everything in our power to protect them from COVID-19.โ€
County officials said schools and government services must stay open. County employees and public school staffers have been offered vaccines, a news release said Thursday.
Unvaccinated employees will be required to be tested at least weekly for the coronavirus at no cost to them.
